sunday 7th sept: summer acoustic night

Yep, we’re going to do it again. It went down a storm last time in Haslemere, but this time it’s on home turf at our local. We’re going to be out the back garden in the warm evening sun with some relaxed ambient atmosphere, many drinks and a lot of smoking. Turn up, pick up a pew, get a chilled vino and sit back to let us entertain you a little with some tunes that are played by that rare experience - a few people who can sing and play in tune with some feeling, complete with a remotely decently rendition of some good well-known and unique songs.

Set - 7.30pm start (2 parts, break in the middle)
—————————————————————————————-
***We are taking requests, so email Jose or Marcos if you want us to play something for you.***
Everyone gets a song dedicated to them of course.

Joey - Singing
Marcos - Acoustic Bass
Alex - Acoustic Guitar
Zair - Triangle

And possibly Gary singing/guitar. Marcos reckons he’s bringing his bongos, and we’ve got a nice big fat pro sound card card and laptop ready to record it all and blog it the next day.

- Evanescence (of course)
- Nine Inch Nails
- Alanis Morrissette
- Bryan Adams
- Shaina Twain (yes, yes i know)
- Sting
- Eva Cassidy
- Eric Calpton
- Amy Winehouse
- John Mayer (Nick Gerbi WILL be playing on this whether he likes it or not)

etc.

And somehow, Jose is demanding we do a version of “Waiting For A Star To Fall“. Oh, the shame.

Bring cameras!

Location - The Links, Liphook
————————————————————————-
The Links is an over-priced Fullers-owned gastro pub on the outskirts of Liphook near the poncy Forest Mere health spa, home to hundreds of pathetic celebrities, unfaithful stockbrokers’ wives and overweight golfers enjoying day after day of colonic irrigation. It can be easy to miss but is around 3mins walk from the station, or just under a mile outside the town centre. It’s set back from the road but the bloody great car park should give it away as it’s right next to the Liphook golf course. Looks we’ll be playing out the back in the garden.

If you want to stay over and go back the next morning, you have the choice of a few places:

Personally, i’d go for the Inn On The Hill (Haslemere).

Driving
————————————————————————-
Liphook is on the A3 dual carriageway trunk road that connects London and Portsmouth, halfway between Guildford and Portsmouth. You can join at Wandsworth and/or the south circular, or pick it up from J10 M25 (Wisley), as well as Woking and Guildford. It’s easy to come in on the A31 from Southampton, Winchester, Aldershot, Farnham etc. The motorway south past Havant flows into the A3 passing Havant and Petersfield.
You WILL get caught in an evil traffic jam near the Hindhead tunnel works on Sunday nights if you’re heading back up north to the capital.

Trains
————————————————————————-
Trains for Portsmouth leave from London Waterloo on the hour (16.00/17.00 etc), arriving at .11mins past (71mins). Pick up a southbound one from Clapham Junction (.09mins/hr, plat 9), Woking (.32mins/hr) or Guildford (.46mins/hr). Alternatively if you are coming up from the south, trains leave from Portsmouth & Southsea at .53mins/hr (taking around 45mins), calling at Havant (.7mins/hr) and Petersfield (.24mins/hr)

The best one to get from London is the 18.00 from Waterloo, that will get you in for 7.11pm. It’s oin the Northern, Bakerloo and Jubilee lines, and walking over from Embankment (Circle/District lines) takes 5mins. The best one to get from Portsmouth is the 17.53, which will get you in for 6.43pm.

Trains from Liphook run hourly. The last train back to London leaves Liphook at 00.09am (10mins past midnight), and the last one for Portsmouth leaves at 00.17am (quarter past midnight)

Come out of the station, head out the narrow entrance and bear left where there is a row of shops (past the Railway Hotel and Country Market store). Head to the bottom of the road until you get to a T-junction with a field opposite. Turn left, walk down for 200 yards or so where it gets darker, and The Links is hidden on your right hand side.
